Why is your dog itchy?
If you always see your dog scratching, you have to figure out what is causing them to do so all the time. It may be an underlying flea allergy, or any type of environmental allergy or skin infections. So if your dog is always itching, check with your veterinarian to learn what the source of the itch is.
Once you know the source, you can look into ways to help soothe your dog’s itchy skin. There are lots of different ways to do this. For example with allergies there are antihistamines, which your vet can talk to you about.
Another option is shampoos and sprays. These usually work reasonably well if your dog’s itchy skin is just dry. There are also conditioners that leave on rinses for dogs. Ask your vet what the best product would be for your pet.
A third thing you can look into for itchy skin is your dog’s nutritional plan. Does he have a good type of dog food? A lot of dog allergies, itchy or dry skin could be related to what they eat. If your dog’s food seems to be okay try adding a vitamin or an oil supplement with fatty acids. These will replenish the oils in the skin and help dry skin. Sometimes they help with allergies as well .
But again, we do advise you to check with your veterinarian first, so that they can guide you on treating your dog’s itchy skin.
