Level Two: ADVANCED CLASS
At this stage, the dog does the exact same routine as the basic training class. The difference is the dog is more disciplined, and he follows all the master’s basic commands–but without a leash. He will also be able to do the entire routine without verbal commands–just by the hand signals alone. You will be able to walk farther from the dog at this stage as he remains on his spot whether seated or lying down, and he will run to you at your signal, whether verbally or just by hand, and resume his “heel” position at your side. And in recall, they will playfully jump up into your arms.
APPREHENSION
At this stage too, the aggression is far stronger, and involves an actual bite. The “assailant” is now protected with a strong protective arm covering and has a stick. Meanwhile, the dog is aware that he is expected to protect his master with a 360 degree distance, and he goes the full force in his attack, biting the protective arm device and not letting go no matter how hard the man tries to shake the dog off. However, on command of his master, he immediately stops.
SOCIABILITY
This is the stage where the dog stops the aggressive attack on command, and resumes healing position beside his master. The “assailant” will now try to aggravate the dog. He will storm towards the dog which is lying on the ground beside his master. As he approaches the dog he noisily hits his arm protector with the stick. He also threateningly hits the arm protection with the stick three times right in front of the dog’s face, but the dog does not react. He then shakes the master’s hand, walks a very close circle around the two of them twice, and shakes the master’s hand again.
If a dog can perform this entire routine as expected, he is considered a stable dog. Obedience and control is critical in the case of police dogs, and such training if you wish for personal protection would also be quite handy. However, make sure you have an excellent training school so that what you have is a powerful yet completely disciplined, obedient and loving dog.
